“6'1" @ 195 lbs. XL fits well enough. Size chart recommended L but it was too small. Typical Alpinestars sizing. I wear L in all the other brands, but Alpinestars is sized weird. Hope that helps.”

Not ready for primetime

“I ordered this in the size recommended by the sizing guidelines, and it fit perfectly. It was lighter than any other airbag I've seen, and better ventilated. Before charging or powering it up, though, I read the entire manual included in the box. I was taken aback to read that the manufacturer warns that the airbag may deploy falsely from "a pat on the back, a tight hug, abrupt movements, not switching off the System before dismounting the motorcycle", etc. If a pat on the back might cause a false deployment, then why wouldn't a pothole or a railroad crossing? Same concern with dismounting: ”

“I purchased my Tech-Air 5 Plasma at Cycle Gear about a month ago. I recently upgraded from the Tech-Air 5 airbag vest, that I've been using for the last year or so, to a Tech-Air 5 Plasma. Like everyone else, I was looking for a more comfortable vest. I have had about 10 rides or so with the new vest. Last Sunday I had a deployment of the vest that I was not expecting. My usual procedure when stopping is to remove my helmet, gloves, and jacket. Then I unzip and remove the vest. When removing the vest I find that the sleeves usually end up backwards (inside out) so I then put my arms through ”

“I don't write reviews... but this time I have to. After riding motorcycles for 35 years I got my first significant accident. The bump to my head was so severe (helmet destroyed) that I lost my memory. I don't really know what happened. I didn't loose consciousness, I just don't remember. A true version 2.0 to the Tech Air 5

“A true generational upgrade from the TA5. They fixed every beef I had with it. Slimmer, lighter, breathable, and the canister is user serviceable. Cosmetically I appreciate that it's a dark grey/black now vs the lighter grey. The algorithm was updated with all of the info from TA5 deployments (both false and actual). Having all of the real world deployments taken into account in the algo on this thing is one of the best updates about this vest to me. It does make my inner conspiracy theorist wonder if thats why they made the original TA5 non user serviceable to get them sent in so Astars coul”

“This is a cash cow. Mine deployed dismounting my bike. way to sensitive. Now they want $140 for a replacement can.”

Saved my life

“I was involved in an accident at 70mph. This airbag did exactly what it was supposed to do. It deployed before I ever hit the ground. I had some minor injuries but where I had airbag protection (ribs, chest, back, upper arms, neck), I was perfectly fine. If you are on the fence because of cost, ask yourself what your life worth? Sure it's a lot more than the cost of an airbag vest.”

Faulty product

“Don't buy this. My tech air 5 stopped working. I sent it in to Alpinestars. They said they couldn't replicate my problem. I sent them videos both times. My best stopped working again. It took months to hear back from them. Told me I med to unscrew something and unplug it and it should work. I asked for a replacement and no word from them. Bought the vest this spring and stopped working this summer. Not even a year old. Do not buy this product.”

I want to love it, but?

“I bought two Tech Air 5 Plasmas, one for myself and one for my wife who is often a passenger on our '24 Gold Wing. I'm a size 42 in suit jacket with a belly on me, and ended up with an XXL. It fits nicely under my XL Sedici jacket with some room for another warm layer. The TLDR is I'll probably wear it if it's below about 75 degrees and I'm going for a ride that is just a pure bike ride with no errands or destinations in mind, but I probably won't wear it if I'm out for errands or out to eat or on a trip with lots of stops. It's a lot of money for occasional use. I have no doubt the Tech Air”

Amazing Airbag! Better than the older model.

“This airbag is amazing! Coming from the old Tech-Air 5, it is so much better! Very light, stretchy, I almost don't feel it when I'm wearing it. The old one was uncomfortable enough to wear I hated/didn't want to wear it . What a massive difference! I will never ride without it! It feels like a thin T-Shirt! For reference, I'm 5'8 200LBs with 44"chest and I got an XL.”
